Batik workshops
Saturday 27 July and Saturday 10 August 2024

As part of the Batik Guild’s International Year of Batik exhibition in the Floor One Gallery, join artists, Andrew Wynne and Sue Rhodes-Simpson of Attic Batik for engaging workshops on this traditional wax-resist technique.

Saturday 10 August with Sue Rhodes-Simpson

Workshop 1
Ages 13-16 years
10.30am-12pm

Free of charge but small charge of £5 payable on day for materials.

Join artist Sue Rhodes-Simpson of Attic Batik for an engaging workshop on this traditional wax-resist technique.
Ideal for art enthusiasts, crafters, and anyone eager to try something new, this short workshop introduces the ancient art of batik. You’ll experiment with a variety of tools, including tjantings, kistkas, stamps & brushes to learn the layering technique of batik using hot wax and dyes. Inspired by examples of abstract, patterned, and motif design, you’ll create your own artwork on cotton or Japanese rice paper. Your finished piece can stand alone or be later repurposed into smaller artworks, greeting cards, or more.
Everything you need will be provided in the lesson.
Please wear old clothing, as the wax and dyes will stain if spilled or splashed.
